The Haub Family Addition to TAM reoriented the entire museum – entrance, amenities and visitor flow, and increased the size of the museum substantially. In four workshops, the seam of the new and existing were explored to improve the clarity of the new addition, balancing the organization of the original building to ‘accept’ the addition gracefully. The new addition and their galleries were opened up to be flexible spaces that enable different scale galleries with a range of media to continue to change to accommodate.

Additions can be seamless if every visitor viewshed and decision point is studied carefully. Minor changes led to much greater clarity while allowing new event and program uses in the expanded lobby.
