The planning focused on introducing new early learner spaces, print / interactive gallery spaces, collection study rooms and public program areas within a landmark historic beaux arts structure. By mapping what didn’t belong and what didn’t flow, new opportunities opened up. New functions were accommodated, and the original organization and flow were restored in ways that improved wayfinding and access to what today’s visitors expect.

Planning interventions in a landmark building requires a totally different approach — you have to let the building’s voice be a stakeholder.

“We had the pleasure of working with Walt during a challenging planning process when the Chrysler was exploring the best uses of space within its building for collections, education, staff, and board functions. He not only provided us with a development plan for the future, but he dared us to think in creative ways to utilize the expensive museum square footage.”
